Henry Cooke artefacts donated to Union Theological College

Following a request from the Presbyterian Church’s Union Theological College, May Street Session and Committee agreed to donate several artefacts which have links to May Street’s first minister, Dr Henry Cooke. The cleric, known to many as the “Black Man” after the statue that stands outside RBAI in College Square East, was also President of Union College, so there are strong links.
The items are:
1. A plaster manikin of Dr Henry Cooke
2. An oil on canvas half-length portrait of Dr Henry Cooke
3. A miniature silhouette profile portrait of Dr Henry Cooke
4. A formal portrait photograph of Dr Henry Cooke
5. An informal portrait photograph of Dr Henry Cooke (bearded) and another.
Prof Laurence Kirkpatrick and Paul Gilmore from Union College are planning to have the items restored and refurbished and eventually they will go on display at Union
Theological College, with a suitable acknowledgement to May Street.
